I received the following request via email and received permission to post it on my blog.

We are in the midst of a fast-paced writing project for an ELA TE for Grades 4 and 5. We have an immediate need for experienced freelance writers to provide copy that meets the client's guidelines and adheres to state standards.

If you are interested in providing freelance services, please email me to receive further details.

New Freelance Education Market Leads Coming Soon!

Just dropping a note to let you know that I plan on posting regularly again in another week or so. Marching contest season is over and there are only two football games left. What this means for us is that evening practices will cease, and I may have some of my own life back. I hope to spend some of it with you guys again.

I've received three emails recently asking me to either work or post jobs, so I know there's stuff out there. I will start digging in your behalf as soon as I can.

Looking forward to it,
Laura

Believe It or Not, I'm Still Here

Remember the getting-my-head-above-water comment a couple of posts ago... Lies! All lies! Ugh. I am getting the hang of it, but it's still not allowing me time to post on this blog.

If you will bear with me just a little longer, I may have regular posts coming back. Maybe even as early as this week. I am talking to a couple of folks who really understand what I try to do with this blog.

Cross your fingers that this works out for all of us!

Thank You for the Support

Thanks for all the encouraging comments. I've received kinds words by comments and by email. I certainly don't like the thought of giving up this community.

I am slowly getting my head above water in the classroom. I find that I have to work every Sunday afternoon, but it makes the rest of the week a little more sane, so I'll have to deal with it. The good part is that I only have to work this hard my first year. I will have all the systems in place to run smoother in the subsequent years, and most, if not all, of my nifty elementary school laminted stuff will be finished and ready for me to pull out of the closet!

I've been slowly talking with folks who are interested in taking over this blog. My goal is to find someone willing to continue the service that I believe all of you readers come here for. I will try very hard to update this blog 2-3 times per week until I can get something more stable going on. If you're willing to hang in there with me, maybe I can survive football/marching season and find myself with loads of time leftover for this blog. Hey, it's a thought!

Posting this Weekend

Just a quick note to let you all know that I will post on Saturday as early as I can. I am not trying to drop this completely, but school started this week and I've learned that I know less than I thought about teaching elementary. Sheesh!

See you on the weekend,

Update

I'm sure you've noticed that I've been missing posts lately. I'm trying to keep up, but there have been a lot of changes around here that are wreaking havoc with my schedule.

I decided to go back into the classroom this fall. I will be teaching 4th grade after 11 years in middle school. There's a lot to wrap my head around. I love my new school. My children will also be attending the new school district, which is a terrific bonus.

Some of you may remember that the buyer for my house fell through this summer, and I didn't get to move when I wanted to. Unfortunate enough at the time, it is still having repercussions. Our new school district is almost an hour away from our current (for sale) home. This drive, together with a child in each level school with staggered start times (we have to leave the house at 6:10 a.m. to make it to the first start time) and high school evening band practice, makes for very long days. I have chosen to stay in town some nights, but at the cost of not having internet access to write a blog posts. Hence the spotty posts.

I am seriously considering what to do with this blog. I love the readership and I love being a good resource. There's just something about helping others that's addictive (perhaps that's why I'm a teacher). But with my current long commute, I don't see myself being able to keep up with it as it should be. Would any of you know of someone who might be interested in purchasing this blog? I am not looking to make loads of money, but I also want someone who's serious about continuing the blog. That's one of the ideas I've been tossing around. If anyone read this far and knows someone who might be interested, please email me. I may post a for sale notice soon.

Keeping my head above water,
Laura

Thank you for the links!

I'm out of town for a long weekend, absorbed in over 400 relatives at a family reunion, therefore there will be no leads posted today. Instead, I've compiled a list of all the sites that I've found that link back to this one. I'd like to say thank you to all who do link back to this blog. It does help drive traffic here. If you know of a site that links to this one, either in comments or in the content itself, and I didn't mention it, please email me or post a comment. I'd love to acknowledge the site.

Also, thank you to all of you who pass on this blog word of mouth. Several folks who subscribe to this blog have emailed me to tell me they heard about it from a friend or colleague. You are all the reason this blog has grown and the reason I keep doing it. Thanks again.

Laura

THANKS again!

Migrating to Wordpress Advice

Update: I don't think Wordpress is going to work out for me after all.

Since I've found that you all are the most helpful and supportive readers in the world :), I'd like to ask if anyone has any experience and advice on migrating a blog, specifically this one, from Blogger to Wordpress. You can email me directly at lauracoulterfreelance at yahoo.com.

Thanks,

Thanks for all the great feedback. So far, it seems that most of you are interested in leads that deal with curriculum and instructional design outside of the education realm. One of you suggested using sub-heads. I thought that was a great idea! So here it goes.

Feedback Request - Curriculum Writing

You all are very good about providing the feedback I need to tweak this blog. Thanks so much for all your encouragement and input. I have another tweak to make and need to know what you think.

Should I list curriculum writing and developing jobs that are outside of the education realm? Many businesses need training developed for their employees. Folks who have a background in education would probably be good at this. My question to you is should I include those leads in this blog as well? I will base my decision on the feedback you give.

Please post your responses on the blog itself, if you're willing. If you reply to the email you get daily from this blog, it comes directly to me and no one else gets to see it. I really don't mind those emails and they are definitely feedback, but I would like for others to see the responses as well.

Thanks,
Laura

Moving Day Denied

Last Thursday was moving day. Well, it was supposed to be moving day. The buyers for my current house fell through. Yuck. So I didn't buy my new house. It was a great tragedy for us all. I really wanted that family in my house because I knew they would love it as much as I did.

Yesterday, my agent looked up how many houses were being put back on the market in Austin over the past few days, just to see if we were an exception to the rule. What she found was a relief (I'm not alone) and disheartening at the same time. Yesterday, 7 homes were put back on the market. The day before, 21. The day before that 44! My agent says it is the mortgage industry that is killing all these home sales.

So, I took a few days to recover emotionally. I should be back in the swing of posting regularly.

Laura

P.S. The one good thing that came out of this is a very clean house.

Moving Day Approaches!

It's been an incredibly busy summer, and it's not over yet. I will not be able to post the rest of this week because I am eyeball deep in packing to move into our new home on Thursday (and then unpacking *sigh*).

I will need a few days to get my bearings (and perhaps internet access), so I won't be able to focus on this blog. If you don't see a post on Monday, then I was unsuccessful in getting internet access hooked up and will get it as soon as possible. Wish me luck!

Traveling to Texas - No Leads Today

Howdy!

I'm heading home to Texas today and Tuesday, so there won't be any leads posted those days. I'll catch up when I get home.

In the meantime, if you haven’t checked Ev Christensen’s Educational Markets for Children’s Writers since she initially posted the list you might want to drop by again. There have been more than 20 additions and updates. The link is also on the right side of this blog page.

There's no place like home!

Survey - Is This Blog Working For You?

One of the recent posts said to email me for contact information. An unexpected bonus of all those emails was that many of you took the time to tell me how much you liked my blog and whether you'd found work in these leads. I really appreciated that. In the spirit of community, I'd like to ask you to post a comment here to say whether you've found work through this blog. I know that some have and some haven't. You don't have to give details, but I thought it would be encouraging to others to see some success. If you've applied and haven't heard back from anyone, you should probably post that comment, too. It brings balance to the force...

Have you found work through this blog?
