Responsibilities include:

  • Working with editorial director, product managers, and development editors to develop projects in multiple formats

Subject: Improving Learning Resources through Diversity (ILRTD)

Background
In 2009, a Pennsylvania grant funded a pilot program that laid the foundation for a
large-scale initiative to attract and retain a diverse industry talent pool. In 2010, a
Diversity Advisory Board was formed to assist in the development of a 3-year diversity
plan. This plan was approved by the AEP Board in December, 2010. An ILRTD
Committee was also formed to carry forward some aspects of the work. Other aspects,
in particular management and fundraising, have been the exclusive responsibility of
AEP.

AEP now seeks a short-term project manager to initiate and complete several
foundational support elements, including assisting in the fundraising effort and
launching other short-term initiatives (such as social media) that will move the initiative
forward during the next 6 months.

Scope of Work

The selected bidder will be expected to:
• Develop an industry brand identity
• Identify compelling stories to support the case for funding ILRTD
• Seek pledges for “seed money” from members
• Seek pledges for more substantial contributions from external parties
• Create approach and criteria for industry research
• Provide regular, dynamic updates to current website
• Contribute to development and implementation of social media strategy
• Plan and execute quarterly diversity awards recognition
• Define and document roles of current and future AEP staff

Proposal Requirements

A. Provide information and samples that establish your organization's experience in
the education industry and with the defined scope of work
B. Provide credentials for the individual to be assigned to this project
C. Provide a work plan for addressing the scope and objectives of this RFP
D. Include recommendations for project integration and ongoing management
E. Provide a fee proposal, as well as an estimate of out-of-pocket costs

Length of contract

AEP anticipates awarding a four- to six-month contract, but reserves the right not to
award any contract.

Timetable

Proposals must be received no later than August 5, 2011, at The Association of
Educational Publisher’s headquarters, 300 Martin Luther King Blvd, Suite 200,
Wilmington, DE 19801. Proposals may also be submitted by email to:

Selection criteria
The top three bidders will be selected by score based on point allocations as follows:
• 35 points for credentials and expertise of the organization
• 15 points for knowledge and understanding of the project

• 15 points for cost effectiveness
• 20 additional bonus points will be awarded to all bidders who are AEP
members

AEP reserves the right to select any of the bidders that fall within 10 points of the
highest total.

Duties of the Position

QIP is seeking a conscientious, fast learner with the ability to understand complicated subject matter, often technical in nature, and communicate it in writing that is engaging, concise, and easily understandable to a broad, lay audience. Specifically, duties include engaging with experts in the field of education data to produce best practice guidance (briefs, white papers, case studies, etc.) for education stakeholders, particularly regarding the design, development, management, and use of statewide longitudinal data systems; supporting the development of outreach materials, such as brochures, flyers, presentations, etc.; supporting the development and management of several client websites (including content development, user testing, and coordination of updates); providing editing and layout services for clients and team members; representing QIP and ED in stakeholder meetings, and supporting meetings that include state and local education agency staff, education data systems experts, and ED staff; and assisting senior project staff with project management and a range of other activities.

Qualifications for the Position

Successful applicants will have at least a bachelor's degree, preferably in a social science discipline; however, a master's degree is preferred. Excellent written and verbal communication and customer service skills, attention to detail, creativity, and an ability to exercise independent judgment are essential. Expertise in Microsoft Office products is required. Some aptitude with graphic design programs such as Photoshop, InDesign, or Publisher is desired, but not required.

Work Conditions

This is a full-time position. QIP is a virtual office community and work would be performed in the applicant's home office. Office days and hours can be negotiated initially but will then be firm once agreed upon. Regular travel to the Washington, DC metro area can be expected and occasional travel to other meeting locations around the country will be required.
