A consulting firm seeks an education writer for material writing, books and data analysis. This is a full-time, remote opportunity. The person selected will be able to travel to the D.C. and other meeting locations in the U.S. from time to time.

Education WriterQuality Information Partners, Inc. (QIP) is a woman-owned small business owned and operated by two principals who also serve as the company's executive management team. QIP provides report, article, and book writing and design; website design, management, and usage analysis; outreach material writing and design; editing and layout; meeting and conference support; project management; data analysis; and technology planning services to the education data community and other clients with a focus on data standards, production, analysis, management, or use. More specifically, QIP offers a wide range of services to the education data community, including expertise in areas such as:
Longitudinal data systems (LDS) planning, design, development, management, and use
Elementary and secondary education data collection, management, and reporting
Data quality/standards guidance and analysis
Data privacy issues such as the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
Education indicator systems, including indicator construction, use, and limitations
National education data standards (elements, definitions, and attributes)
Education website accessibility
Data ethics
Metadata design and implementation
Data modeling (strategic and planning support)
Federal data, publication, and website standards
QIP consultants support of the work of several programs and projects of the National Center for Education Statistics of the U.S. Department of Education, including:
Statewide Longitudinal Data Systems (SLDS) Grant Program
National Forum on Education Statistics (Forum)
Common Education Data Standards (CEDS)
Privacy Technical Assistance Center (PTAC)
State Education Information Support Services (SEISS)
Effective Practices Conferences
In these roles, QIP has produced a wide variety of deliverables, including published reports, internal (unpublished) reports, web content and materials, outreach materials, and other briefing materials in support of education data system development and decision-making at all level of education.
Duties of the Position
QIP is seeking a conscientious, fast learner with the ability to understand complicated subject matter, often technical in nature, and communicate it in writing that is engaging, concise, and easily understandable to a broad, lay audience. Specifically, duties include engaging with experts in the field of education data to produce best practice guidance (briefs, white papers, case studies, etc.) for education stakeholders, particularly regarding the design, development, management, and use of statewide longitudinal data systems; supporting the development of outreach materials, such as brochures, flyers, presentations, etc.; supporting the development and management of several client websites (including content development, user testing, and coordination of updates); providing editing and layout services for clients and team members; representing QIP and ED in stakeholder meetings, and supporting meetings that include state and local education agency staff, education data systems experts, and ED staff; and assisting senior project staff with project management and a range of other activities.
Qualifications for the Position
Successful applicants will have at least a bachelor's degree, preferably in a social science discipline; however, a master's degree is preferred. Excellent written and verbal communication and customer service skills, attention to detail, creativity, and an ability to exercise independent judgment are essential. Expertise in Microsoft Office products is required. Some aptitude with graphic design programs such as Photoshop, InDesign, or Publisher is desired, but not required.
Work Conditions
This is a full-time position. QIP is a virtual office community and work would be performed in the applicant's home office. Office days and hours can be negotiated initially but will then be firm once agreed upon. Regular travel to the Washington, DC metro area can be expected and occasional travel to other meeting locations around the country will be required.
