Freelance Education Writer Needed: The Center to Prevent Youth Violence

Background

Founded in 1998, The Center to Prevent Youth Violence (CPYV), previously known as PAX, is an innovative and uniquely effective nonprofit organization working to end the crisis of youth violence in America. CPYV develops focused and empowering public health and safety campaigns that promote the simple steps parents, kids and others can take to prevent violence affecting youth.

CPYV’s SPEAK UP youth violence prevention program is based on the fact that in the vast majority of instances of youth violence, young people who are not involved know what is going to happen before it does. SPEAK UP provides youth with the tools and resources needed to act on that knowledge in order to safely prevent violent acts from occurring, including an anonymous, national hotline.

CPYV is seeking an experienced education writer to develop a discussion-based facilitator’s guide aimed at empowering youth to “speak up” about threats of violence, either by calling the hotline or by telling a trusted adult. The writer will work closely with organization leadership to develop, write, and finalize guide for national distribution.
