Focusing on the Education Market

I’ve decided to focus this blog on writing for the educational market. I haven’t seen anything out there that fills that need. I’ve looked because I’ve needed it. So I will put what I know and what I learn as I go. Hopefully, some of you will be able to add needed information through your comments.

I currently work at an educational publisher and have had some experience working with freelance writers from the other side of the desk. I will do my best to take advantage of my resources there.

As a start, I will post the freelancing link to Cengage Learning, formerly Thomson Learning. If you're looking for the freelancing info from the main page, look to the bottom for careers at Cengage.

I've also got a couple of places I visit at least once a week for freelance jobs that are not necessarily for the education market. I learn a lot about freelance writing from Deborah Ng and get great sources from Anne Wayman.

That's all I have time for today. I will post again soon. Please post comments if I've erred or you have information to add.

Thanks,
Laura

Laura, thank you for putting this together!

Just yesterday, I spent the day listing publishers I'd like to send samples to.

I'll be checking back often! :-)

Do you plan to syndicate with LJ? I don't know how that's done but it allows LJers to get notifications when you post a new message on Blogger.

Lisa,

Could you please send me the link to LJ? I'd like to look into it.

And thanks for the great first comment!

Thanks,
Laura

Laura,

Someone with a paid LJ account (not a free one) can create a feed for you. I've had readers create one for me each time I've started a new blog.

Laura, thanks for starting this blog. You will help many of us who are "newbies" in the NF field and want to write for the education market.

Laura,

Finally all the resources under one roof. What an amazing initiative. I'll be checking often. I've bookmarked your blog and thanks for these great leads.

Laura,

I just found this blog--it looks wonderful.

If you're looking for topics, I'd love to hear a bit about how to break into this market. I am a children's writer, with a couple of publications, but I'm wondering if there are "best" ways to use that as a stepping stone into freelance educational work.
