Editor for a client's education manuals
Description:
The candidate must be able to:
Adapt to changes of schedules, guidelines, and processes
Communicate effectively with individuals, in writing and by phone and webex
Contribute to maintenance of the Client's Terms Database and Editorial Sourcebook
Maintain records of all of his or her editorial activities (projects, timelines, hours, and so on) and report to the managing editor as requested
Edit and, as needed, revise and rewrite copy to improve readability, usability, and instructional effectiveness and to align with the client's standards and guidelines
Detect and correct errors in spelling, punctuation, and syntax
Explain editorial decisions
Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in English, linguistics, or a related discipline (Master's Degree preferred)
Professional training and experience in technical communication and in instructional design or curriculum development
In-depth knowledge of the grammar and structure of the English language
Experience with current language-related and instruction-related issues, such as minimalism, readability, usability, online delivery, and writing for non-native English speakers and for translation
Proficiency in oral and written communication and in working independently and as a member of a team
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat
More than ten years of directly related experience, including the following:
o Experience working within editorial guidelines and policies
o Experience assisting and mentoring writers
