Director of Programs at Read Alliance LOCATION:
New York, NY ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION:

Read Alliance works to improve the educational trajectory of at-risk kindergarten and first grade students by recruiting and training teens to provide structured one-to-one tutoring in reading. By using a researched based curriculum, its students achieve significant and measurable reading gains. ABOUT THE POSITION:
This is an exciting opportunity for an exceptional educator, manager and relationship builder to help grow a high performing organization. Having just completed its first year of a three year strategic plan, Read Alliance (READ) is on a path of significant growth.  It is increasing its impact by expanding its program offerings and significantly increasing its number of strategic partnerships in New York City.

The Director of Programs will play a pivotal role in leading READ to achieve these growth goals. The Director of Programs will report to READ Alliance’s Executive Director and oversee a team of nine professionals. Key Responsibilities:
Internal Management
•  Manage and develop READ Program staff, ensuring they meet annual goals while also building skills and growing professionally
•  Oversee internal research and analysis, keeping informed of current research in the field of early childhood education in order to pursue possible internal research projects and present at relevant conferences
•  Monitor and manage quality of programs, READ teachers and tutors, ensuring the delivery of high quality training to READ teachers and tutors
•  Maximize student enrollment, attendance and reading gains by analyzing data, leverage that data to inform processes to improve overall program performance
•  Develop and maintain strong working relationships with fellow staff members, fostering a culture of respect and collaboration
•  Support READ’s growth and replication goals (e.g. 45 sites in 2014-2015), supporting development staff in procurement of programmatic grants

Partnership Development and Management
•  Continue relationships with returning READ sites
•  Establish and maintain relationships with new strategic partners (e.g. Department of Education, charter school networks, social service agencies)
•  Increase READ’s visibility and brand recognition to drive program growth
•  Work with potential sites to help school leaders bring the program into their schools; increase READ’s operational efficiencies to improve program delivery
•  Simplify the development of long-term, repeat-customer relationships
•  Maximize enrollment of participants at each site through collaboration with school staff and through parent outreach

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS:
•  A minimum of ten years of professional experience required, with a strong preference for experience as both a teacher and a staff manager
•  Deep commitment and passion for improving early childhood literacy and educational outcomes for children more broadly
•  Experience managing and developing high performing teams
•  Strong relationship building skills, with a track record of cultivating and maintaining deep relationships with external partners
•  Exceptional analytical skills, with the ability to leverage student performance data to guide teachers and students and to enhance instruction
•  Demonstrated success achieving goals during a period of growth
•  Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)
•  Fluency in a second language (preferably Spanish) is a plus
•  Master’s degree, ideally in a related discipline, is strongly preferred
