FT On-site Copy Editor - ELA

Description
IXL's new language arts component helps students master grammar and vocabulary like never before. Students' abilities soar as they interact with engaging texts, correct grammatical errors, and determine the meanings of new words in a variety of contexts. 
We are looking for a full-time, in-house copy editor to join our content development team. In this role, you will function as our resident perfectionist, testing and editing all language arts content to ensure it is free of grammatical issues, typos, and logical errors. You will use your educational insight, language arts expertise, and training as an editor to suggest and implement improvements that strengthen the product as a whole. 
Responsibilities
  • Review, edit, and proofread all language arts content for grammar, spelling, punctuation, accuracy, logic, and adherence to our content guidelines and specifications
  • Revise or rewrite content as necessary and implement corrections in an online format
  • Maintain existing content by vigilantly searching for issues and ensuring they are addressed properly
  • Ensure that edits strengthen the quality of the content while also adhering to general and topic-specific guidelines
  • Collaborate with product analysts to ensure the consistency of formatting and instructional messages across all language arts content
  • Maintain internal documentation, including style and content guidelines
Qualifications
  • BA/BS degree in English, Journalism, or a related field 
  • Minimum of three years' editing experience, preferably in an educational publishing environment
  • Expert knowledge of The Chicago Manual of Style
  • Extremely strong writing ability and grammar knowledge, including a finely tuned sense of written English usage
  • Experience in ELA content development with a strong understanding of students’ reading and knowledge levels for grades PK-12
  • Experience using web content management systems and editing in an online format
  • Ability to be efficient and organized while working on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to influence and improve the work of others
  • Strong critical-thinking, research, and problem-solving skills
