Flexible location The New Teacher Project (TNTP) helps school districts and states fulfill the promise of public education by ensuring that all students—especially those from high-need communities—get excellent teachers. A national nonprofit organization founded by teachers, TNTP is driven by the knowledge that although great teachers are the best solution to educational inequality, the nation’s education systems do not sufficiently prioritize the goal of effective teachers for all. In response, TNTP develops customized programs and policy interventions that enable education leaders to find, develop and keep great teachers and achieve reforms that promote effective teaching in every classroom. Since its inception in 1997, TNTP has recruited or trained approximately 37,000 teachers—mainly through its highly selective Teaching Fellows™ programs—benefiting an estimated 5.9 million students. TNTP has also released a series of acclaimed studies of the policies and practices that affect the quality of the nation’s teacher workforce, most recently including
The Widget Effect: Our National Failure to Acknowledge and Act on Differences in Teacher Effectiveness (2009). Today TNTP is active in more than 40 cities, including Baltimore, Chicago, Denver, New Orleans, New York, and Oakland, among others. For more information, please visit

The Teaching for Results Content Seminar Series Curriculum
In California, the District of Columbia, Louisiana, Maryland, Rhode Island, Tennessee, and Texas, TNTP has partnered with school districts to create and administer programs that not only provide new teacher training, but also recommend new teachers for state certification. Participants in these programs, the District of Columbia Practitioner Teacher Program, the Louisiana Practitioner Teacher Program, the Maryland Practitioner Teacher Program, the Oakland Practitioner Teacher Program, Rhode Island Teaching Fellows, Tennessee Practitioner Teacher Program and the Texas Teaching Fellows, earn full state certification by completing TNTP's
Teaching for Results Seminar Series, successfully completing a year of full-time teaching, and participating in district mentorship programs.
Our programs are distinguished by both their emphasis on alternate route teachers and their explicit focus on teaching in high-need schools and subject areas. Upon completion of the program, all candidates meet federal "highly qualified" requirements. To date, TNTP has certified more than 1,450 teachers in four states (the DC and RI programs were just launched in 2009). In Texas, 92 percent of new program participants in 2008 reported feeling effective in raising student achievement.
The Teaching for Results Seminar Series curriculum is the foundation of our Practitioner Teacher Programs, and we are currently in the process of writing the manuals for the content area of Bilingual Education.
The approach that the Training and Certification business line uses in developing curricular products is grounded in the belief that teachers’ efficacy in closing the achievement gap is facilitated by the production and implementation of high-quality, research-based pre-service and in-service curricular materials. This approach entails developing an initial product, implementing it, and revising it until it reaches a threshold of stability and excellence approved by key stakeholders: the developers and the users.
Role and Responsibilities

- Researching and reviewing state and professional standards for Bilingual education

- Developing session objectives and corresponding curricular activities that integrate research-based best practices in instructional planning and delivery, content pedagogy, and assessment into each session
- Producing a facilitator manual and participant manual at the end of the project period for Bilingual education
- Documenting references and obtaining copyright permissions for materials used
- Participating in an iterative curriculum design process with TNTP staff members
- Responding to staff feedback and incorporating feedback into course revisions as part of a collaborative design process with TNTP staff members
- Collaborating with other members of the curriculum design team including the graphic designers, proofers, and TNTP design staff
This position offers the successful candidate the opportunity to have a profound impact on how new teachers are trained to teach in high-need schools.
