Senior Content Specialist

Description:
Our client is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to helping the academic community use digital technology to preserve the scholarly record and to advance research and teaching in sustainable ways. The organization provides innovative services that benefit higher education.

This position reports directly to the Manager of Content Production: Live Environment. The Senior Content Specialist will work closely with vendors, Publisher Relations, Content Development, User Services and other internal departments to meet deadlines and ensure that existing and incoming publishers' electronic scholarly content is processed in accordance with best practices and quality control guidelines.

The position's responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

Act as a quality control analyst in the production and archiving or publishing of publisher content
Assist Manager in creating inventory of incoming publishers' content for legacy (or historical) issues and ongoing content
Assist Manager in planning, prioritizing and executing production work based on established business goals and needs
Quickly respond to and effectively troubleshoot and resolve complex problems either generated by the system or identified by publisher/publisher relations or end-users
Delegate problems that require additional clarification and/or resolution to appropriate technical staff or publisher relations
Maintain and track vendor turnaround times and processing metrics
Contribute toward documenting procedures, workflows, and guidelines pertinent to processing, problem resolution, and content tracking
Follow and foster guidelines and best practices in quality control of content
Mentor and train support staff in current content processing and related activities
Other duties as assigned

A successful Senior Content Specialist will be:
A self-directed, self-motivated individual who feels comfortable taking on a broad and changing set of responsibilities; seeks out additional work/responsibilities in a fast-paced and rapidly evolving organizational environment; and looks for pro-active ways to improve and enhance communication and workflow processes. Ideally, the perfect candidate will have prior experience working in electronic/technical publishing and will possess exceptionally strong problem solving skills.

Required Qualifications
Minimum 3-5 years hands-on experience in publishing, production, quality control and/or technical support environment
In-depth knowledge of rich text markup languages such as SGML, XML, and HTML and ability to read DTDs
Extensive experience in working with complex textual data
Excellent organizational skills, with a strong attention to detail, a proven track record of meeting deadlines, and a willingness to work in a hands-on environment
Strong analytical skills for effective problem solving
Solid understanding of quality control methods, procedures, and guidelines
Working knowledge with Microsoft Office products including Visio
Familiarity with content management and workflow systems
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in education, training, and experience

Desired Qualifications
Experience with a range of technologies
Working knowledge of Documentum
Background in publishing industry

Rate: $ 25-40 per hour

Description:
Looking for educational writers who are familiar and experienced in writing courseware at the high school and community college level--WorkPlace Skills knowledge a plus. Must be comfortable with long, detailed requirements for courseware organization; quick turnarounds at time. Currently have many Lessons open for assignment.
