McGraw-Hill Higher Education's Humanities, Social Sciences, and Languages (HSSL) Group has an exciting opportunity for a Freelance Development Editor to work on new digital products for English. The Freelance Development Editor will oversee the development of new digital-based content for Connect, McGraw-Hill's digital teaching and learning environment (connect.mcgraw-hill.com), for Developmental English and/or Freshman Composition courses. This position requires a commitment of approximately 20 hours per week and will extend through December 31, 2013.
Essential Accountabilities:
Manage one or more specific digital programs for Developmental English and/or Freshman Composition, including content and schedules.
Closely collaborate with McGraw-Hill editorial team members, most especially the Lead Digital Content Editor and Digital Product Analyst.
Review and edit digital manuscript for editorial quality.
Aid in developing detailed project guidelines, such as content style sheets, to ensure the project meets the required specifications.
Supervise and maintain strong relationships with 5 to 7 author SMEs (subject matter experts), reviewers, vendors, and others to ensure product quality. Provide content feedback and guidance to SMEs and vendors as appropriate.
Required Experience:
Bachelor's degree, preferably in English or related subject. Master's degree preferred.
3 to 5 years' experience in development editing and/or editorial project management with a focus in digital content development.
Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
Self-directed, motivated, and willing to take initiative to complete tasks and projects.
Digitally-inclined and comfortable learning new technologies, including authoring tools.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office product suite.
