Looks interesting...perhaps a bit more project management...NYC. Michele
Version:1.0 StartHTML:0000000149 EndHTML:0000002479 StartFragment:0000000199 EndFragment:0000002445 StartSelection:0000000199 EndSelection:0000002445 Oral History Project Manager:
For over 20 years, the Lower East Side Tenement Museum has researched and interpreted the lives of immigrant families who lived at 97 Orchard Street. Because the building’s life as a residence terminated in 1935, and because the museum values site-specificity, the Museum has been unable to extend its interpretation beyond that date. The Museum's new Visitor & Education Center at 103 Orchard has a residential history that extends the interpretive time frame, allowing for the privileging of more recent experiences, including the stories of Holocaust Survivors, Puerto Rican migrants, and Chinese immigrants.
The Lower East Side Tenement Museum seeks an Oral History Project Manager to oversee, coordinate, and conduct oral history interviews with former residents, shopkeepers, and landlords of 103 Orchard Street, the Museum’s new Visitor & Education Center, as well as Chinese immigrants, Puerto Rican migrants, and Holocaust Survivors who lived on the postwar Lower East Side. These interviews will serve as the basis for future interpretive programs, establish a rich context for telling the stories of 103 Orchard Street’s postwar residents, and create an important resource for future scholars.
QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates should hold or be working towards a Masters Degree in Oral History, History, Anthropology, Sociology or a related field and have experience organizing and conducting oral history interviews. Candidate should be detail oriented, possess strong oral and written communication skills, and have a working knowledge of oral history methodology. Preference will be given to applicants who are fluent in Chinese (Cantonese) or Spanish.
Compensation: $20,000 per year
Benefits: None
This is a part-time grant-funded position, which terminates after two-years.
Please send cover letter and resume to dfavaloro@tenement.org. No phone calls, please.
