Progress Testing, a leading educational assessment publisher with growing digital program seeks individual with outstanding English language arts, editorial, and organizational skills to join editorial team producing state-specific item banks for the K-12 market.
Responsibilities include:
- Working with editorial director, product managers, and development editors to develop projects in multiple formats
- Developing stable of freelancers, illustrators, and content reviewers with subject matter expertise
- Negotiating terms and executing agreements with freelance contributors
- Staying current on research in pedagogical best practices for subject area
- Attending relevant conferences to maintain expertise and acquire new content producers
- Working with authors to shape ideas into content
- Creating and maintaining item bank assets in internal proprietary system (based on html)
- BA English or ELA/Education; strong English language and grammar skills required
- A minimum of 5 years’ editorial experience in educational (collegiate) print or test prep publishing
- Fluent, intimate knowledge of the editorial process: copyediting, proofreading, and manuscript editing.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strict adherence to schedules and deadlines
- Strong planning and organizational skills
- Proven ability to multitask; able to juggle several projects at once
- Extremely detail-oriented
- Solutions-based work ethic and ability to project manage workload with guidance from senior staff
- Teaching experience is a plus

Responsibilities
As a freelance content writer, you will work on a 1099 contract basis producing articles on higher education, K-12 education and career topics. You get to choose your work from a large pool of topics and must be able to follow a guideline that ensures quality and consistency of the product. You can work from anywhere, day or night, as long as you provide your own computer and internet access. It is completely flexible, but we ask that you work at least 15 hours a week or produce at least 5 articles per week. Our work pools are virtually endless, so once you demonstrate that you can efficiently produce quality content, you can work as many hours as you choose.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree or higher in any field OR some college experience in English, journalism or education
Strong research, writing, grammar and editing skills
Basic understanding of online research
Ability to respond to feedback and give feedback in a constructive way
Must live and be eligible to work in the United States
Must be over the age of 18
Pay Rate
We can't make you rich, but we offer consistent work and opportunity for increasing your compensation. We also have a long track record of reliably paying on-time every two weeks. There is a learning curve to our content management system, so the initial pay rate for content writers is $8/hour. Pay rates are reviewed frequently and are based on content quality and efficiency scores. There is no ceiling on what high performers can make.
High performing writers who meet our goals will have the potential to become freelance content editors in as little as a few months. All content editors are chosen from within our content writer community. We also have several higher level positions we offer to our best, most consistent performers.
