Discussion Board Email Slam

Ok, when you accept the invitation to join the group, I suggest you select the 'no email' option. I just went in and changed everyone to 'no email' (even those who selected digest). If you would like to receive an email for each post or an email digest, you will need to go to the Join Group page and edit membership settings.

Question on Cheyton Educational Systems

There's a question about Cheyton Educational Systems on the discussion board. If you have any information, please consider responding. Clicking on the header for this post will take you to the blog page. Please don't respond to this directly by email. I am trying to take myself out of the middle-man spot.

New Blog Features

Based on some reader feedback, I've added a couple of new features to this blog.

  1. The Google Custom Search bar at the top of this page searches within this blog only.
  2. There is a now a Discussion Board page (Link on the right sidebar, top)
    • You must be a member of the Google group writingfortheeducationmarket to post.
    • You do not have to be a member to read posts.
    • I tried to send an invitation to all my active subscribers but Google didn't like that, so maybe you got that invitation, maybe you didn't. I have no way of knowing until you start accepting the invitations or requesting to join.
    • I am trying to keep out spammers so I have to clear anyone who wants to join.
    • This is a professional resource. Please make sure your posts maintain that professionalism.
    • Yes, folks who hire might read the posts, hence the professionalism.
Happy discussing!
Laura

UPDATE: I've managed to send out invitations to about 500 subscribers so far. Google is a little tired and told me to wait until later to add more. If you haven't received an invitation and you regularly receive emails from this blog, it's coming. Just gonna let poor li'l ole Google rest a little bit...

Reader Asks: Is EFA Worth the Investment?

I have belonged to the Editorial Freelancers Assocation (EFA) for a year. In that time, there have been numerous educational writing/editing postings. I have applied to quite a few and gotten no nibbles. I find more work from this blog and the Get Curriculum Development Jobs site. It costs $145 a year to belong to EFA; I'm starting to think it's not worth it. Has anyone here ever gotten work from belonging to EFA and getting their job postings?

And do most people find their gigs here or by having an author/editor website?

Thanks for your responses,
Deb

A Lovely Note

I received an email from a company that recently posted a lead on this blog. She said the resumes she received from the post were superb, and she's sharing the blog info with her colleagues (who also hire writers, I presume). I thought you guys might like to know what kind of great impression you were making. :D

Instructional Designers

A Pass Educational Group is looking for several freelance instructional designers to work with us on a number of different projects. These projects include both course development and assessment writing. While our instructional designers need not have expertise in any specific software programs, they must have deep pedagogical knowledge. If you are interested in applying please send your resume to Andrew Pass at ap@pass-ed.com.

Special education gig

Hi all...my colleague is looking for a special education teacher/specialist who can also write. See the brief detail below. If you are interested in learning more or are interested in the gig, please contact Elena directly. You can mention that I (Michele Israel) posted.

Hi Michele,

I hope this finds you well.

I have a “live” job in-hand. It involves writing 400-450 pages of double-spaced content for a Praxis II Exceptional Education test prep book.

Note that the writer would only need to write Chs 2-6. I can provide more detailed information to anyone who’s interested.

The schedule is tight: I need a sample chapter by next Thursday (10/20), and the entire draft would be due by Friday, 11/11. I can offer $2000 for the work.

Thanks!

Elena
